2012 in Review – a meme

December 31, 2012 Posted by Suzanna misc

1: What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?  Publish my first book! In fact, I’ve published two. 🙂
2: Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?  I’ve kept a few of them, but not all. Hope springs eternal, though, so yes, I’ll be making more for 2013. Only this year I’m calling them “goals”.
3: Did anyone close to you give birth?  No.
4: Did anyone close to you die?  Yes. 🙁
5: What countries did you visit?  Budget constraints kept us close to home this year.
6: What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?  A passport … and the chance to use it! (My old one expired a few years ago and sadly I haven’t needed a new one in that time.)
7: What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?  The day my daughters turned ten. How in heaven’s name did my babies turn into preteens already!
8: What was your biggest achievement of the year?  Undoubtedly, the success of Dancing with the Duke. I never dreamed this little prequel novella would make it into the top 200 on Amazon!
9: What was your biggest failure?  My debut release, Dear Stranger, was released by the publisher at a price that even I balked at. Not surprisingly, sales of the book were less than stellar.
10: Did you suffer illness or injury?  No (knock wood!)
11: What was the best thing you bought?  My Kobo Glo – I can now read in bed without disturbing my husband!
12: Whose behaviour merited celebration?  I was ecstatic when Justin Trudeau announced he would run for the Liberal Leadership. (Canadian politics, folks. You can look away.)
13: Whose behaviour made you appalled?  The shooters at Sandy Hook Elementary School and in Aurora. So many senseless deaths. 🙁
14: Where did most of your money go?  Our biggest expense is our mortgage.
15: What did you get really, really, really excited about?  The realization that my lifelong dream of being a published author was finally coming true!
16: What song will always remind you of 2012?  Gangnam Style, of course!
17: Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? (c) richer or poorer?  (a) happier, (b) the same, (c) a little better off. (Nowhere near rich, though!)
18: What do you wish you’d done more of?  Writing.
19: What do you wish you’d done less of?  Goofing around on the internet.
20: How did you spend Christmas?  With family at my mother’s house.
21: Did you fall in love in 2012?  I’ve been in love since 1992. 🙂
22: What was your favorite TV program? Can I fudge the rules and say Dr. Who/Teen Wolf/The Almighty Johnsons?
23: Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?  No. Life’s too short to expend that much energy on anyone not worth my time.
24: What was the best book you read? Best book? Gulp. I can’t choose just one – I’ve never been very good at doing “what’s your favorite” lists. I read so many great romance novels this year. I can say, however, that the best non-Romance book I read was Trish Doller’s Something Like Normal (YA).
25: What was your greatest musical discovery?  I can’t think of one artist that stood out above the others this year. The last musical discovery I made that blew me away was Hinder a couple of years ago … and anyone who really knows me is surprised by my love for the group.
26: What did you want and get?  A smartphone!
27: What did you want and not get?  A new tablet.
28: What was your favorite film of this year?  I haven’t seen as many movies as I wanted to this year. Of the ones I did see, I loved The Avengers.
29: What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?  Chai tea lattes and my Tassimo.
30: How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?  I’m a writer/stay-at-home mom. I’m afraid fashion wasn’t high on my list this year.
31: What kept you sane?  The love and support of my family. (And of course, escaping into a good book. 🙂 )
32: Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?  Hugh Jackman still ranks right up there!
33: What political issue stirred you the most?  I’m Canadian, so I plead the 5th on this one since the issues that concerned me most didn’t have to do with my country.
34: Who did you miss?  My good friend, Catherine Witmer, who passed away in 2010.
35: Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.  The only guarantee of failure is to quit trying.
36: Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.  “Oh, go for it, run toward it, dive in headfirst, live life with no regret / Put your heart out there, don’t be scared / You might get hurt, but it’s all worth it in the end” – Hinder, The Best is Yet to Come
